Step 1 · Choose the right path

Different products do not share one universal measuring rule.

The deduction, minimum recess depth, maximum size, and installation clearance depend on the product system. Start with the product family you plan to order.

Step 2 · Prevent the most expensive mistake

Tell us whether you are providing opening size or finished shade size.

These two measurements are not interchangeable. The order notes and every measurement sheet should repeat the selected size type.

You measure the clear opening exactly. Do not subtract a factory allowance. ANJIAR reviews the product, mount type, and opening before applying any product-specific production deduction.

You provide the exact outside dimensions required for the completed product. No additional deduction should be assumed. Use this only when you already know the finished size your project requires.

Zebra shades · Inside or outside mount

Choose the mount that matches your window—not just the look you prefer.

Inside mount gives a built-in appearance and keeps the trim visible. Outside mount can improve coverage and is often the better option for a shallow, obstructed, or noticeably out-of-square opening.

Measure the clear recess—not the glass.

  1. Depth: measure from the front edge of the opening to the first obstruction at the left, center, and right. Record the smallest usable depth.
  2. Width: measure inside the opening at the top, middle, and bottom. Record all three exact values.
  3. Height: measure inside the opening at the left, center, and right. Record all three exact values.
  4. Obstructions: photograph handles, locks, cranks, screens, tile, trim, or anything entering the cassette or fabric path.
  5. Square check: measure both diagonals. A meaningful difference signals an out-of-square opening and should be reviewed before ordering.

Measure the coverage area you want the finished shade to occupy.

  1. Start with the opening: measure the window opening width and height before adding coverage.
  2. Choose a flat mounting surface: install on the window casing face or the wall above it. Check trim, ceiling lines, switches, vents and nearby walls before deciding the top position.
  3. Add width overlap: we recommend opening width + 6 in (15.2 cm) total—3 in (7.6 cm) on each side.
  4. Choose the top height: with clear wall space, add up to 6 in (15.2 cm) above the opening so the raised shade covers less glass. If there is an obstruction, use only the available space.
  5. Choose the lower limit: stop at the top of a projecting sill (+0). With no sill and a clear wall, you may add 3 in (7.6 cm) below the opening.
  6. Check the full drop: make sure the shade will clear handles, radiators, countertops, furniture and other obstructions.
  7. Order the exact finished size: enter the final overall width and height you measured and label it “FINISHED SIZE.” ANJIAR will not add or deduct again.
  8. Adjust for your project: these overlap values are recommendations. Your site conditions and preferred finished position control the final size.

The top-mount reference identifies the internal dimension shown in the manufacturer drawing. The minimum recess depth is the clear window-recess depth required for inside-mount installation.

Review before checkout

Measure three widths, three heights, depth at multiple points, and both diagonals. Add the skylight angle, installation height from the floor, frame material, control preference, and clear photos.

Final checks before checkout

Should I round a measurement?

No. Record the exact reading. For inches, measure to 1/16 in where practical; for metric, measure to 1 mm. Do not convert repeatedly between units.

Which of my three measurements becomes the order size?

That depends on the product and whether you submit opening size or finished size. This page shows the smallest width and height range for review, but it intentionally does not apply a production rule.

How do I know if inside mount will work?

Confirm usable depth, flat mounting surfaces, obstruction clearance, and whether the opening is square enough for the selected product. When any value is close, send photos for review.

Can I measure the glass only?

No, unless ANJIAR specifically requests it for a special system. Standard inside-mount measurements refer to the usable window opening where the product will fit.

What if two windows look identical?

Measure and label each one separately. Even matching windows can vary enough to affect a custom product.
